Tandridge project – iV. Sitting area

Published:

This soft seating area is in the newly extended area of the open plan kitchen and dining room and tucks really nicely at the opposite end to the kitchen. The glazing extends the length of the soft seating and dining space connecting them together really well so we designed the media cabinetry to sit wall to wall in the area to really balance out what is a very large open plan space.

Half Windsor – a paint colour bespoke to HM and Berkeley oak work brilliantly here – the stone tone of the paint and the warmth of the oak really take away the impact of what is quite a large television. Closed storage below is great for hiding things you don’t want out on display while the open shelving above is great for art, accessories and photos.

Good lighting is an art form in itself and here you get a sense of the impact it has on the cabinetry. Designing cabinetry without integrated lighting is absolutely fine but when you see the effect it can have it is hard to un-see it!

The sofa with the Ludlow console table behind it divides the space really nicely and the Crucial Trading rug softens the space really well as otherwise it might feel a bit loud and cold with a tiled floor. It was a deliberate tactical decision to use quartz with an ogee edge for the top knowing this would be a magnet for abandoned glasses during parties.

For a bit of pattern and colour these Oka arm chairs work so well in the room and are in-obtrusive size wise but provide essential extra seating when you need the room.
