Sevenoaks, Kent Project | Westbury Garden Rooms Published: 23-12-2020 The Sevenoks project, Kent is a cool, calm and collected space designed for busy family life and easy entertaining. ‘Having previously extended this property in the past we were limited with space to extend. We therefore designed a orangery with a half roof lantern installed onto the rear of the kitchen. The new extension has wholly transformed the interiors, creating an open-plan room with a calming, tranquil feel. We suggested a half roof lantern so that the extension would still look like a complete orangery, with an abundance of natural light streaming in. Using a combination of traditional joinery techniques and modern manufacturing technology, we constructed the orangery from engineered timber. This creates a timeless aesthetic that complements the detailing of the dark Portobello oak kitchen cabinets.’ – Westbury Garden Rooms Humphrey Munson reconfigured the newly available space into a bespoke kitchen the clients had always dreamed of. What was once a much smaller, darker space has been cleverly transformed by the team at Westbury to become a light and bright room the family now don’t want to leave – even the family’s two German Pointers love it! The Longford kitchen gives the home an ample, welcoming, multifunctional space which also includes a walk in pantry, scullery, utility room and formal dining room which all flow off the main kitchen. All areas of this newly formed space have been utilised without feeling overcrowded meaning you can enjoy a book by the open doors to the garden without having to move your chair around to get out of someone’s way. The main kitchen has been careful designed to become a gathering point at all times of day, young ones can sit at the banquette (integrated into the island) and do their homework or enjoy their favourite tea time program on the nearby TV concealed behind cabinetry. The TV cabinetry is more than just a place to hide away a screen, beneath is an integrated Fisher & Paykel cool drawer used for drinks storage which means the host can grab a bottle of wine or soft drinks quickly, rather than walk across the kitchen for them. It’s also perfectly situated for summer barbecues as it can be used for both food and drinks storage, alleviating pressure from the main kitchen.
