Private Estate Residence | Behind The Design With Hill House Interiors Published: 20-06-2023 Harmonious Collaboration: Uniting Vision and Expertise for Timeless EleganceIn the world of interior design, a harmonious collaboration between talented professionals often leads to breathtaking results. Such is the case with Hill House Interiors and Park Lane Developments who we worked with on this recent project – a family home located on a prestigious private estate. It showcases the seamless fusion of their respective design philosophies and expertise. Together, they have transformed a spacious family home into an oasis of timeless elegance. By combining sophisticated elements with practicality and a keen eye for detail, HM, Hill House and Park Lane have created a residence that effortlessly blends luxury and liveability.Embracing the Challenge of BalanceCreating a space that exudes both luxury and a relaxed atmosphere can be a daunting task. However, for Yannique Hammond, the Interior Designer at Hill House Interiors working alongside founders Jenny Weiss and Helen Bygraves, it was an opportunity to showcase their expertise in designing for longevity. In her words “textured surfaces, where you can see the wood grain, wear naturally and look just as good with time.” By choosing softer textures and muted hues over glossy finishes, Hill House have ensured that the home would stand the test of time while providing a welcoming ambience.Thoughtful Design ChoicesEvery decision made during the design process was meticulously considered, resulting in a harmonious flow throughout the home. One example of this attention to detail is the incorporation of curtains in the kitchen. This choice preserved the architectural integrity of the space while adding a contemporary touch. Yannique notes that “the curtains seamlessly blend with the coffered ceiling, creating a cohesive aesthetic”. And because painted walls were chosen instead of textured wallpaper (emphasising the clients’ preference for easy maintenance and long-term durability), it was even more important to bring that softness into the space with the use of the curtains. The Art of LayeringA standout feature of this project is the exquisite layering of fabrics and finishes, which adds depth and warmth to the design. The kitchen, in particular, showcases this artful composition. Hammond highlights the handmade pendants by Porta Romana, hand-painted and crafted in England, that adorn the kitchen island with natural elegance. The linen finish of the shades was thoughtfully chosen to allow soft illumination, enhancing the overall atmosphere of the space.Trusting the Design ProcessNavigating the multitude of design choices can be overwhelming for homeowners. Yannique advises against making decisions in isolation and encourages clients to trust the design process. With a team of professionals working tirelessly to ensure coherence and functionality, the end result often exceeds initial expectations. Yannique’s advice is to “look at each element in relation to the overall design and understand the holistic impact of every decision made.”Creating an Inviting AmbienceThe seamless integration of banquette seating and a dining table within the kitchen space exemplifies the harmonious connection between the kitchen and the main living area. This design element serves the needs of a busy family of five, accommodating various activities throughout the day. From morning coffee to family meals and evening entertaining, the multifunctional space strikes a balance between luxury and practicality. As Hammond emphasises, “It’s about creating a space that caters to the daily rhythms of family life.” The Art of Concealment: The Allure of the Well-Designed Walk-In Pantry Yannique Hammond, the talented interior designer at Hill House Interiors, expresses her admiration for the hidden gem within the kitchen: “I just love that you have no idea that the walk-in pantry is there. It is just so well concealed and literally looks like a cupboard, and there’s nothing about it that interrupts the design flow of the kitchen space.” Hammond goes on to highlight the functionality and design opportunity presented by this small but impactful space: “And even though it’s a small space, it’s so functional and a really good opportunity to go for a completely contrasting feel using that HM colour Soot. It’s such a statement on its own in the room, and using that dark colour is such a win-win in what is effectively a room with no natural light, so you’re always relying on artificial light to see what you’re doing.” The ingenious concealment of the walk-in pantry adds an element of surprise and seamless integration to the kitchen design. Its discreet presence allows the focus to remain on the overall aesthetics, while the contrasting colour choice enhances the visual impact within a space that lacks natural light. This hidden gem adds intrigue and intrigue to the overall design, while its practicality ensures its functionality is not compromised. The walk-in pantry serves as a testament to the power of intelligent design choices that enhance both aesthetics and usability in a space that relies on artificial light. The Beauty of Thoughtful DetailsAttention to detail is a hallmark of this project. From the faux leather upholstery surrounding the coffee table, providing both softness and safety for the clients’ young children, to the choice of rustic bistro-style dining chairs and plush counter stools, every detail has been carefully considered. These elements not only enhance the overall design but also ensure the comfort and warmth of the space, making guests feel welcomed and at ease.Overcoming Challenges with ExcellenceNo project is without its challenges, but it is through skilful navigation that the most remarkable designs emerge. Both Hill House and Humphrey Munson have met these challenges head-on, utilising their expertise to overcome limitations and create a space that transcends expectations. Their collaborative approach, as Louisa Eggleston states, “brings out the best in both parties involved, and the end result is always stronger for it.”Expanding Living SpacesThe grandeur of the sliding doors and the allure of the Loggia create a harmonious blend of indoor and outdoor living. This project exemplifies the seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, crafting a dream-like atmosphere that embodies sophistication and elegance.Yannique elaborates on the remarkable design elements: “It just almost doubles their living space with that wonderful indoor/outdoor feel. Park Lane, the esteemed developer behind this project, consistently incorporates Loggias into their designs. It has become almost a signature look for them. What I love about this aspect of the design is that it lets the outdoors in and expands the living space. The Loggia also has a luxurious feel that adds elegance to the home.” Yannique further reveals the hidden gem of the project: “One of the really special things about this project, unseen in the images, is the lighting. It truly brings the space to life in the evening. The integrated and cohesive design of the lighting merges the indoor and outdoor areas exquisitely. The collaboration between Humphrey Munson, and Hill House Interiors, has resulted in a truly remarkable transformation. Through our shared vision and expertise, we have been proud to be part of the team working on this project to create a home that seamlessly marries luxury with practicality. The artful layering of textures, thoughtful design choices, and attention to detail have culminated in a space that exudes timeless elegance. As we celebrate this remarkable collaboration, we are reminded of the power of harmonious teamwork in achieving extraordinary design.Interior design: Hill House Interiors & photography by Ray MainDeveloper: Park Lane Developments Share this article Copy this link https://www.humphreymunson.co.uk/private-estate-residence-behind-the-design-with-hill-house-interiors/ Share Copy link Previous Article The Yorkshire Project | A Classical New Build in the Queen Anne Style Next Article Irresistible Roast Gammon & Grilled Pineapple Salsa
