Are limestone floors porous? Published: 29-08-2019 Well, yes essentially! Limestone is a sedimentary rock that forms on the sea floor where material rich in calcium carbonate accumulates. Because limestone is formed under the bottom of the sea it’s basically pressurised, which makes it super durable, and also porous. Fairford Limestone Flooring installed in the Spenlow Utility Room at Humphrey Munson’s showroom in Felsted, Essex (size 60cm x random x 1.5cm).We recommend your tiler uses FILA MP90 Eco Xtreme or FILAFOB stone floor sealant for unpolished surfaces. This is the sealer we use in our showrooms on our limestone floors.“Limestone is ultimately an incredible durable floor covering and nothing compares to the look and feel of this natural stone. Just make sure to use a good sealer and take the time to do it properly”.Important note:The limestone tiles should be fully fitted and sealed prior to any furniture or cabinetry being placed on or fitted above it. Every limestone is different in the number of coats required, as some are more porous than others, so the stone should be sealed until it is fully saturated and won’t absorb anymore sealant. Your stone flooring tiler will know the process, but as a general rule of thumb we recommend at least 3 coats prior to grouting, and then as many coats as required following the grouting.
